Architecture: Houses on Sticks

I like architecture that is unexpected and there is nothing more unexpected than a house in the middle of a lake.

Found: Cell Buddies

I like this one because it takes the parts of a cell phone to make two people to show the connection between cellular phones and human interaction, but it is fun and whimsical.

Found: Signs

The work is constructed from recycled sign and put together to create free standing object that uses pattern, color, and type to make an interesting design. It shows how discarded everyday things can be made new.

Picture taken from davidtorrence.blogspot.com

Found: Birds

I like the many, many layers of this piece. It builds up layers of wood, paint, newspaper, etc. to add depth and pattern. Its also ironic how it uses natural materials to mimic nature.

Found: Alphabet Trucks

I like found art that takes things you see all the time and rearranges them in an interesting way. In this instance, it takes the alphabet game most people play while driving and put it into a photographic piece.

Production: Mobile Type

This image uses three dimensionality but with text. The shadows from the hanging mobile make the text less flat as well as the staggered breaking apart of the words.

Production: Nutcracker

I like cut paper but this takes it a whole other level of paper art. The technique is very precise to create such realistic imagery without having to draw it. I am drawn to work that uses three dimensionality.

Production: The Detroit Cobras Poster

This is 3 color silkscreen that has each layer as a different image with slightly unaligned that creates a sort of border for the whole image.

Picture taken from www.eljefedesign.com

Production: Augmented Photos

I like the added elements that are added onto the image to make it more lively and expressive like doodle art. The layers make the 2d image and give it more dimension.

Texture: Chromosome Diagram

Texture is used here to differentiate information and sets the tone of the piece. Color differentiates at first glance but the texture gives depth to the image.

Picture taken from www.headcasedesign.com

Texture: Sitting Man

Texture is used, along with color, to establish space by separating the wall from the floor. I like it because it is subtle but achieves the right affect.

Picture taken from www. sturgesreps.com

Texture: Shoes

I like the way texture is used here in the background to help separate three illustrations and give a personality to each.

Picture taken from www.catherinelepage.com

Texture: Fragmented Landscape

This image reminds me of a fragmented landscape with all the layers of varying shades of blue. It comes of softer because of the color palette but also the paper grain texture.

Pattern: Summer Pinic

The zoomed in viewpoint of the fruit salad turns the shapes into more of a pattern. Its recognizable but still interesting as when seen as an abstract image.

Picture taken from www.moma.org

Pattern: Tate's Bake Shop

The vine pattern in white translates well to different colors and is not overwhelming while still adding some whimsy and character to the straightforward packaging.

Picture taken from www.louisefili.com

Pattern: Abstract

I like this because it is two layered pattern using a three dimensional and printed pattern. It is also an organic pattern layered with a gridded pattern which I find visually compelling.

Picture taken from www.porostocky.com/

Pattern: Journal Interiors

I like that the complicated, graphic pattern is kept to one color and the white is used balance it out. It is feminine and decorative but not frilly.

Picture taken from http://www.madcropper.com/wp-content/recipe2.jpg

Picture taken from www. epica-awards.org

Font Family: Meta and Meta Serif

I like Meta because it is modern without being rigid. The serif version of the font is just as lively without losing readability.

Design Project: Converse 1HUND(RED)

This campaign joined Converse and Product (Red) to fight AIDS in Africa. 100 artists designed a Converse sneaker with their own particular take on epidemic. Each sale contributes to cause. I like this campaign because it has a many different views on the same subject using the unorthodox medium of a sneaker.

Pictures taken from www.converse.com

Design Project: Nike Campaign

I am drawn not only to the visual but to the message Nike is sending with these ads. I like the body copy mimics the body part that it speaks of, how color is added behind black and white photography adding more depth to the image.

Image Manipulation: Ripped Cover

The cover is designed to physically show what the book is about. An image of a ripped spine is blended with a bold red cover to evoke actual damage making the title literal.

Pictures taken from http://www.designobserver.com/

He is known for using Photoshop to manipulate light in images to create otherworldly results. I like the bold use of color and the way the effects blend with the image.

Picture taken from www.nopattern.com

Typographic Image: 3-D Ts

The image takes the letter T makes it three dimensional and uses mutiples to make a pattern. These choices push it further from being a letter and more so a complicated form. I was drawn to the simplicity of the all white cover that really focuses on the form of the letter by making it into a tangible form.

Picture taken from www.spd.org

Typographic Image: Glowing Letters

This image takes the letters and makes them into a abstract image in their own right by making them three dimensional, line drawn, glowing shapes amongst sporadically placed stars. The use of light and color give the letters life.
